Viaduct Kit: Mid Span Kit
Viaduct Kit: Mid Span Kit
Viaduct “MID SPAN” Kit Laser Cut Self-Assembly Model
These kits are inspired by the viaducts that lie on the West Highland Line in Scotland. In particular, the Rannoch Viaduct North of Rannoch Station and the Gaur Viaduct South of the station. There are 3 base kits. One for the 2 end “parapet spans” of Rannoch; one for the 2 end “parapet” spans of Gaur; and a single “Mid” span kit which can be used in multiples to suit your requirements on the number of spans you wish. The actual Rannoch has 9 spans in total and Gaur 5.
These instructions cover the Viaduct “Mid Span”. Note this kit MUST be used with either the Gaur or Rannoch Parapet Span kits.
This bespoke 1 x A3 laser cut 3mm plywood sheet (Fence posts on 1.5mm ply) model has been designed (in 1/76 scale) to reflect the detail of this iconic viaduct.
The Viaduct requires glue. Choose a glue that allows at least a minute before setting to allow adjustments to be made during the build. Always test the build before using glue.
OPTIONS
The viaduct can be assembled with a variety of options:
- Mid span kits can be purchased to increase the length of the viaduct. Each Mid Span kit will add 282mm to the length.
- The height of the central piers can be adjusted slightly by either gluing the “telescopic” parts slightly further out OR by cutting the lengths of the telescopic parts so they shorten.
- The central pier has the option of either an “on land” pier with a square base OR as an “in water” pier where the base has pointed ends to divert the water flow around the pier
All TT:120 gauge kits are scaled to 66% of the size of the original OO gauge model. The mathematically correct conversion from OO to TT:120 is approximately 63.33%, meaning that our TT:120 models are intentionally slightly oversized.
Scaling to N gauge works well and requires no additional modifications due to the material thickness. Some parts will be very fine, so take care when removing them from the frame. If some window pieces are particularly fine, they can be reinforced by soaking them in glue before assembly.
When scaling to O gauge, some manual modifications may be required during assembly. This is due to the increased material thickness required when scaling from the 3 mm plywood used for OO gauge. At true O gauge scale, the equivalent material thickness would be approximately 5.25 mm. As this thickness of plywood is not readily available, we use the closest available thickness, 4 mm plywood.
