This tenement kit represents a basic tenement without the bay windows that signified more affluent areas. It represents a building that can be found in many of the towns across West Central Scotland. 

This kit offers a façade of the FRONT of the tenement.

The kit comes as a 4-storey building but can readily be assembled as both 3 and 2 storeys. The frontage has an option for shops at the ground level as well as options for the windows and embellishments to the lintels. These options are highlighted on the next page. 

The kit is compatible with the Glasgow Tenement kit available from PopUp and multiple kits can be used to add realism to your layout as the tenement styles vary from street to street.

This bespoke 3 x A4 laser cut 3mm plywood sheet (2x0.8mm) model has been designed in 1/76 scale to represent a style of tenement building found across West Central Scotland.

The building requires glue. Choose a glue that allows at least a minute before setting to allow adjustments to be made during the build. Always test the build before using glue.

For finishing, we recommend first priming the surface, then painting with any acrylic or model paint of your choice. The material is etched, so any engraved detail such as brickwork or roof tiles will be visible after painting.

Important Information About Railway Scaling

All dimension drawings are supplied in OO gauge.

All kits are designed in OO gauge using 3 mm plywood. When scaling the digital files to other gauges, there are a few considerations to take into account. The instructions supplied with your kit will be the OO gauge version, as the build order remains the same across the different scales.

TT:120 Gauge:
All TT:120 gauge kits are scaled to 66% of the size of the original OO gauge model. The mathematically correct conversion from OO to TT:120 is approximately 63.33%, meaning that our TT:120 models are intentionally slightly oversized.

We use the 66% scaling factor because the material thickness required for a true 63.33% reduction is not readily available. By using 66% scaling and 2 mm plywood, we can offer our full range of kits in TT:120 while maintaining the correct fit and assembly of the original designs, without the manual modifications required for our O gauge kits.
This means our TT:120 models are approximately 4.2% larger than mathematically exact 1:120 scale, but this allows us to retain the design detail, strength and ease of assembly of our kits.

N Gauge:
Scaling to N gauge works well and requires no additional modifications due to the material thickness. Some parts will be very fine, so take care when removing them from the frame. If some window pieces are particularly fine, they can be reinforced by soaking them in glue before assembly.

O Gauge Orders:
When scaling to O gauge, some manual modifications may be required during assembly. This is due to the increased material thickness required when scaling from the 3 mm plywood used for OO gauge. At true O gauge scale, the equivalent material thickness would be approximately 5.25 mm. As this thickness of plywood is not readily available, we use the closest available thickness, 4 mm plywood.

Each design is modified to account for the reduced material thickness, but some manual adjustment may still be required during assembly. We recommend dry-fitting the parts before gluing so that any joints that require light sanding can be identified and adjusted for a flush finish.
